I Feel Like Gon Freecss

About a month or two ago, I started watching Hunter X Hunter the anime series. I’m still watching it and working through the seasons. The thing I love about this show is that the protagonists are very relatable. After I finished season two, I wrote a piece about why I felt like Killua Zoldick and how most of us can relate to a time that we didn’t live up to our parent's expectations. But in this piece, I’m thinking back to a time when I felt like Gon Freecss.

For those of you who don’t watch anime(you should), Gon is the main protagonist of the Hunter X Hunter series. He was raised by his aunt, Mito, after his father abandons him, so he can live as a hunter full time. When Gon turns twelve, he decides that he wants to take the hunter test too, so he can be like his father, Ging.

Gon is the epitome of childhood. He is naive, free, and curious about the world. He sees good even when a situation is bleak. He is also very perceptive but still does not know as much as he thinks.

Even as an adult, I’m still very naive about things. Like Gon, I want to find good in people and not be jaded by the horrible things that happen in this world. Or…
